This is more like a "note to self" for the future. It'd be fun to process further / read a book of a backgrounds of modern family model and it's development from family groups and village societies to modern small family unit.
Just to mention few interesting points:
1. Dividing societies into smaller units helps controlling them. People tend to get courageous and show stronger resistance only in larger groups. That is: Only when they feel safe to express themselves.
2. Consumer -centric competition and today's economics put these little family units - instead of forming tight societies - into bitter competition of wealth and success. Against each other.
3. Government-supported church's role as a normalizing and normative force of modern family unit.
4. Increasing the overall feeling of insecurity through markets and media and forcing people to "buy security from markets" instead of natural way to human behavior. "To buy" requires "wealth".
All anti-communal and dividing norms in a community based on parliamentary democracy takes the individual further away from decision making authorities. Thus strenghtening the power of ruling top and helping the authorities to escape the responsibilities because "avarage family" can present almost any values and opinions, depending of the target group of the poll where opinions are studied.
